Jobs Looking Good -- 6/5/2008

Stock PicksThe Department of Labor Jobs report was way better than expected.

Applications for unemployment benefits came in with a decline of 18,000, much better than expected.

What does this mean?  It could mean that the economy still has something healthy growth in it.  Or, it could be volatility in the job numbers.  If you take a 3 month average, we are still seeing jobs decline.  Time will tell.  If energy stays high, companies will ultimately have to raise prices and cut costs (layoffs).

Retail sales looking great for Wal-Mart.

Stock Picks

Wal-Mart's retail sales looking great as consumers shift into looking for bargains.  A rep for Wal-Mart reported that stores open at least a year, sales rose in May.  Amazing.  I would expect this trend to continue.

Finally, as the dollar weakened today, oil rose past $128.
